What do you know about silicone glue?

Silicone adhesive is an ointment like material that solidifies into a tough rubber like solid once exposed to moisture in the air. In the purchase or selection of silicone adhesive, we need to know where different types of sealants are suitable for. Are there any particular requirements?

Types and uses of silicone adhesive:

(1) Structural sealant

Features: Bear wind load, gravity load, high requirements for strength, aging resistance, and elasticity.

Application: mainly used for structural or non structural bonding assembly between metal and glass of glass curtain wall. It can connect glass directly with the surface of metal components to form a single assembly component, which can meet the design requirements of curtain wall with full or semi hidden frame. Structural bonding and sealing of insulating glass.

(2) Two layers of silicone sealant for insulating glass

Features: high modulus, not too soft, some have structural requirements.

Application: double sealing of insulating glass to ensure the structural stability of insulating glass.

(3) Weatherproof sealant

Features: it needs to bear large joint width variation, high requirements for elasticity (displacement capacity) and aging resistance, no strength requirement, high modulus and low modulus.

Application: suitable for all kinds of curtain wall weatherproof sealing; joint sealing of metal, glass, aluminum, ceramic tile, concrete, masonry, aluminum material and coating surface.

(4) Ordinary silicone sealant

Features: it can bear the change of joint width, has certain displacement capacity requirements, and does not require strength.

Purpose: seal the joints of doors and windows, external walls and other positions.

(5) Special purpose silicone sealant

Features: it needs to have some special performance (such as mildew proof, fire prevention, etc.).

Application: used for joint sealing with special requirements, such as fireproof, mildew proof, etc. The joint sealant of kitchen and bathroom should have mould proof performance

Matters needing attention when using silicone sealant

1. From the production date, the general shelf life is about 6 months;

2. Silicone sealant should not be used on the surface of building materials with grease, plasticizer or other solvents;

3. Do not use on the surface of the paint, which may cause sealing failure due to cracking or peeling of the paint film;

4. Silicone sealant should keep the original sealing state and store in a cool and dry place;

5. It should not be used on the surface that will directly contact the food or where it is prone to mechanical wear, so as to avoid eating by mistake.
